Hannibal Tavares Community Center shelter closed at 1:30 a.m. 8-16-26

As of 1:30 a.m., 8/16, Mayor Hannibal Tavares Community Center shelter in Pukalani has been closed due to flooding and is no longer available for residents seeking shelter from Hurricane Lala.
 
Residents who need a safe place to go should proceed to the next nearest available shelter that can be safely reached.

Other available shelters on Maui include:
 

  • Wailuku: Baldwin High School, 1650 Kaahumanu Ave.  
  • Hāna: Hāna High & Elementary School Cafeteria, 4111 Hāna Highway 
  • Lahaina: Lahaina Civic Center Gym, 1840 Honoapiʻilani Highway 
  • Kīhei: South Maui Community Park and Gym, 1501 Liloa Drive 

 

On Lānaʻi and Molokaʻi, the Lānaʻi Youth Center, 101-165 Fifth St. Lānaʻi City, Molokaʻi Baptist Church and Kilohana Recreation Center, 344 Kamehameha V Highway, Kaunakakai are available on an as-needed basis.
