Santa Fe County adopts Community Trust Ordinance

SANTA FE, N.M., Sept. 30, 2026—At the Sept. 29 regular Board of County Commissioners meeting, Santa Fe County adopted the County Facilities and Community Trust Ordinance to limit the use of Santa Fe County property, resources, personnel, and records for federal civil immigration enforcement.

The ordinance generally bans the use of County staff, property, funds, and records to help with federal immigration enforcement while remaining compliant with state and federal laws. The ordinance sets rules for when and how immigration officials can access nonpublic County areas. The County Manager will develop written policies addressing implementation, staff training, signage, documentation, and annual reporting to the Board. You can watch the discussion from Tuesday night’s meeting on the County YouTube channel.

“Public safety cannot mean safety for some and fear for others. When one of us is not safe, none of us are safe. This is what government closest to the people must do: stand together, defend constitutional rights, and protect the dignity and well-being of every person in our community,” said Commissioner, District 2, Lisa Cacari Stone, who introduced the ordinance.
