Witwer Joins Delta Township Community to Open Delta Senior and Activity Center
State lawmaker speaks at ribbon cutting ceremony for the much-anticipated community space
DELTA TWP., Mich., Oct. 13, 2026 — Today, state Rep. Angela Witwer (Delta Twp.) joined leaders and guests from Waverly Community Schools and Delta Township at the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Delta Senior and Activity Center. As former chair of the House Appropriations Committee, Witwer helped bring home $10 million for the center last term alongside state Sen. Sarah Anthony (D-Lansing). During the ceremony, Witwer shared remarks and participated in self-guided tours throughout the new community space.
“It has been incredibly rewarding to see this project that started out as just an idea a few years ago come to life. As a lifelong resident of Eaton County, helping create an updated space for our seniors and older residents here in Delta was a top priority of mine, and I am so proud to have brought taxpayer dollars back home for this project,” Witwer said. “I look forward to visiting again once programming has begun and seeing the positive impact the Delta Senior and Activity Center will have for our community.”
The center will officially begin its programming in January 2027, offering enrichment classes, game nights, bingo lunches and more for seniors around the community. The building is also home to the Colt Early Childhood Education Center, creating opportunities for residents and families of all ages to build connections.
“It has been our honor to work with Delta Township and our state partners to redevelop Colt Elementary into a dual-purpose space for both early childhood students and their families and our community’s seniors,” said Waverly Superintendent Glenn Mitcham. “This project has been years in the making, and I want to thank our county’s state lawmakers, township staff and the community members and local senior groups who have shared their input. I look forward to seeing this space become one of enrichment, new friendships and learning for students and seniors.”
“It has been the unique collaboration between the Township, Waverly Community Schools and our state lawmakers that made this renovation possible, and I am glad to see that our seniors will have a safe and modernized space to connect with the community,” said Delta Township Supervisor Fonda Brewer. “From the groundbreaking to months of construction to now being able to tour these facilities, it has been so rewarding to build this space, and I am confident that this center will bring together Delta Township residents of all ages.”
