DVIDS - GeorgiaBrig. Gen. Alexander Lovasz, Maneuver Support Center of Excellence and Fort Leonard Wood commanding general, said the Waynesville-St. Robert Regional Airport at Forney Army Airfield is one of 21 joint-use airfields throughout the Department of War.
“The Army appreciates the long-standing partnership we have between the installation and our respective communities,” Lovasz said. “Last year alone this airfield serviced almost 11,000 people. So this ceremony is truly a celebration of not only a facility but of a capability that will ultimately improve access to Fort Leonard Wood.”
Waynesville Mayor Sean Wilson said the new terminal represents growth, transformation and evolution for the community.
“Our community has people working together to transform this community and to continue to evolve and adapt,” Wilson said.
St. Robert Mayor James Breckinridge said with the volume of passengers the airport has seen this year, the new terminal “couldn’t come at a better time.”
“Today we celebrate much more than the completion of a new building, we celebrate an investment in our community, our regional transportation infrastructure and our future,” Breckinridge said. “This airport will serve our residents, our businesses, our visitors and perhaps most importantly, our military community.
“Fort Leonard Wood brings in thousands of service members, families and visitors to our region each year and having a quality regional airport is an important part of that mission.”
According to a Waynesville-St. Robert Joint Airport Board official, the new terminal is expected to open to passengers Dec. 8, 2026.
Contour Airlines provides commercial air service for the Waynesville-St. Robert Regional Airport to and from Dallas, Texas and Nashville, Tennessee.
